Vegan/Veganism

Veganism is a type of vegetarianism diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products and all other animal-derived ingredients. Many Vegans also do not eat foods that are processed using animal products, such as refined white sugar and some wines. They also don’t wear particular types of clothing, such as leather, fur and wool.

Vegan refers to either a person who follows this way of eating or to the diet itself. That is, the word vegan can be an adjective used to describe a food item, as in, “This curry is vegan”, or, it can be used as a noun, as in, “Vegans like cookies, too.”

But why would you choose to become a vegan ? They are many reasons. Let’s have a look.

Animals are a constant part of our lives. We share our houses with them, our beds, and we even consider them to be members of our family. While they may not be able to speak our languages, we value them highly. We interact with them and we often turn to them for emotional support. When they pass away, we mourn them.

We also believe that they enjoy being alive as much as we humans do, as they enjoy the company of others. Yet for other animals we stick forks and knives into their bodies and wear their skin as clothing. Is that morally right ? Maybe you think it is wrong to act violently against dogs or cats, but why do we think this? Animals around the world are dying just because we want to wear their skin, eat them or their products.

Some of us try to defend this by purchasing products that are marketed as “humane” or as produced “ethically.” However, these words are meaningless and actually do very little to give animals a better life. In any case, these terms comfort the public to believe it is okay to exhaust animals simply because we enjoy using them. We can change this social affliction and respect life by going vegan.

Consuming a plant-based diet also has significant benefits for our environment and health. Many studies show that eating more fruits and vegetables can dramatically change rates of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Raising animals for food is also the single greatest human-caused source of destruction to our environment. In the rain forest, areas as big as soccer fields were cut down and used for growing soy beans for industrial livestock farming. Many rare animal species are in danger of extinction.

Personally i decided to going vegan. For me, its the next logical step, after being a vegetarian for over six years, to do the best as you can to help our environment and to reduce my ecological footprint. I never felt so happy with myself. 🙂

Relationship between Smoking and Health

 What do you think about tobbaco? I really hate them because they smell very bad. When I go past person who smoked, I can see through he or she is a smoker. I learned that tobacco is bad for the smokes as well as around the smokers when I was a junior high school student. Nevertheless, my boyfriend is a smoker. He smokes a pack of tobacco every day.

So I will survey about the relationship between tobacco and health.

 I surveyed smoking with these four questions.

1.Do you usually smoke?

2.How much tobacco do you smoke?

3.What do you think about the people who smoke?

4.Do you think that smoking is bad for your health?

I asked three people. Two of them are EF’s students and the other is the clerk of the sandwich shop in front of the EF.

The results are that three of them don’t smoke so they don’t like smell and they think that smoking is too bad. Also, I asked my boyfriend these questions. He said that he knows that smoking is bad for health but after smoking his mind will be clear so he can’t stop smoking.

Traveling is a way to see new places, learn new things and different cultures. It is a way to see different points of view and to grow up as a person. Every trip changes you a little bit, and when you come back home you’re a different person in some way.

 

Lately, I had the chance to go to lots of places with my family because they like traveling as much as I do. Last summer we went to Florida for two weeks and we traveled around Florida so that we could see all the different cities. We saw “small” cities, like Fort Myers and Daytona, and also big cities, like Orlando and Miami. I could see the differences between those cities, the small neighborhoods with a lot of lovely houses in Fort Myers and the big ones in Miami with a lot of mansions, the small and empty beaches and the crowded ones.

I liked everything about this trip. I had the chance to see a lot and to see how real life is in the USA. I live in Switzerland and I always watch American movies or tv series, and I’ve always dreamt about going there. So this trip was a kind of dream that became true.

This year I also went to London and Amsterdam for a few days.

I had the chance to see a lot of history and museums and they were really interesting but it was also interesting to see some characteristics of the countries.

For example, did you know that in Britain all the people always stay in line on the escalators on the right side? Because in this way the people that are in a hurry can go on the left side. I was really impressed about that! I’ve also been to Italy and to the seaside of Greece, but that was more of a relaxing holiday than a real trip.

I would really like to go far away, like in Asia or Africa to see some really different cultures.

Another way to see new places and new cultures are going abroad to learn a language.

You can learn a new language and you can actually live like a native of the place. You can change your lifestyle for a period and I think that this is really a great experience!

I study a lot of languages at school, and I like to travel in the summer and improve my additional languages. I’ve already been to Germany a couple of times to study German and I really liked that. So this summer I’m in Santa Barbara for a month to work on my English.

I think that this has been a really great experience, an experience that I will remember forever!

You live for a month away from your home and you are away from your everyday problems. You live a different life and you learn new things. When you come back home you will be an improved person, and maybe you will see things in a transformed way.

In conclusion, traveling is a way to change your personality and it is an experience that you won’t live again, and you will always have it in your heart, because it’s going to become a part of you. This experience is going to become something that you’ll never forget.

 

SMOKING EFFECT

The cigarette includes many harmful chemicals. For example, nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, and it includes more than 50 substances that cause cancer. Furthermore, you would lose your facial beauty if you continue to smoke. People around smokers are influenced by cigarettes.

 

I surveyed about cigarettes. I asked 4 questions to 3 people. The first question is “Do you smoke?” All 3 people said no. The second question is“How many times do you smoke a week?” And the third question is “How many cigarettes do you smoke in a day?” Of course, they said zero. The last question is “Do you think cigarettes are unhealthy?” They said yes. So all 3 people think it is unhealthy to smoke, but there are many people who smoke. I think they have to be concerned about their bodies.

Exercise and Effect

There are many things that makes us better. I think that exercise is one of the best thing for our health. Because it can bring us many good effects. For example it makes feel happy. Then I asked four questions to three people who is EF student, who is native English speaker and who is gym trainer.

Each of they think the best sports for their health is own them. And two people exercise about 5 ~ 10 hours in 1 week but one person do just walking. In addition, all three people say playing sports outside is good. Because it has effects own their body. For example it makes feel happy and healthy good shape, other says build muscle and make mental toughness. In conclusion, doing exercise is good effects for everyone so it is very necessary in our life.

Health and Exercise

When you want to be more healthy, at first, you may think to exercise. Yes, it is a common way to be healthy. From children to elderly people, exercising is a good way to be healthy and stay healthy.

I asked three people whether they liked to exercise or not. Everyone answered “Yes! I do like to exercise!!” And also everyone answered we need regular exercise.

They said running is the best to do everyday. I agree with that. I think running is the easiest way to exercise because you don’t need much money and any machines. There is a person who said a bike is also good. That is a good idea.When you go to work, you can go by bike instead of car.

On the other hand, I asked them what kind of sports they liked. They answered football, basketball, and dance!

Someone said “it is important to exercise every day, but it is difficult.” That is true. However, we can keep doing what we like every day. Thus, instead of running or biking which you don’t want to do every day, you should do football,basketball, and dance which you like. Of course, if you like running, do running!

I think we can do what we like every day. As a result, it makes our life healthy!!

The Sport in the People’s Lives

   Sport is omnipresent in our lives. The majority of people give sports a place well-defined in their lives, whether large or small, that it’s for their health, for the education of their children, their hobbies. Obviously, everyone is not passionate about the same sport ,but sport itself brings people together.
We don’t go a day without seeing someone do a sport or without hearing about sports on television. Even the big nations struggle between them for the organization of competitions like the Olympic Games.

To learn about the sport of the people, I went out into the street and I stopped people to ask four questions of three people. The first was: Do you play a sport? Two of them said yes.

The second was: Which one and why? The first person told me: “In my city the rugby is sacred, it’s rooted in our culture.”And the last person told me: “The golf, because my grandfather made me love this sport.”

The third question was: How much time per week do you play sports? The first person told me: “Four times so approximately, I practice seven hours.”The last person told me: “One time every weekend and I stay there two or three hours.”

The last question was: Do you prefer to go somewhere by car, by bus, by bike or by foot? The first person told me: “By car because it’s fast.”The second person told me: “By bus because it’s less tiring that to drive.”And the last person told me: “Sometimes by bus for short ride, but by car for the work or for the long ride.”

  Thanks to this survey, we can see that sports are a part of our lives but everything depends on the culture of countries, cities and education we can receive. The passion for the sport depends on each. Sport reaches every person differently!

 

TO EAT HEALTHILY IN CALIFORNIA

A lot of Californian people want to have a perfect body and for that they eat healthy food. I have also to say that being healthy is not just to eat healthy and to do sport, no, it’s almost like a philosophy of life.

Wednesday, the 21 of February, I went to State Street and to the EF school to ask people four questions. I talked with three persons : Dan, an EF student; Jessica, a native English speaker and Carolina, a women I met on State Street.

The first question: What do you eat in the morning?

In the morning, Dan eats French toast with butter and drinks water. He is an athletic person. Jessica eat cereals and Carolina likes to eat bacon with eggs and pancakes with her coffee but not every day.

The second question : Do you think that you eat healthy food (that you eat healthily)?

Dan told me yes because for him it’s important. Jessica told me yes too and Carolina told me that she don’t really eat healthy. She doesn’t really give an importance to that.

The third question : Do you like to cook healthy recipes ?

Dan told me that he doesn’t really cook. Jessica said yes and Carolina said no because it doesn’t interest her.

Fourth question : If you had the choice between a soda and a fruit juice, what would you choose?

Dan and Jessica would choose the fruit juice and Carolina told me that for her, it depends of the time of the day.

• With this survey, I can say that Dan is an athletic teenager who isn’t really interested to have a healthy lifestyle but pays attention to what he eats. Jessica may be a healthy person who likes to cook healthy recipes and Carolina isn’t really interested to be a healthy person.
