A question regarding globalization, which we an answer to is. How will the global market look in 10 years? Well that is a question I can answer in a heartbeat. With the growing demands and emerging economies such as Brazil, Russia, India and last but not least China, call for new marketing strategies. A marketing strategy that works in Denmark might not work in Zambia, caused by language barriers and cultural differences. In order for a Danish company to successfully penetrate the Zambian market, the company must seek above gaining economic surplus. The company might even need to adjust their product to the country in interest.

Communication Is Key Another important factor to be aware of, is the manner in which you communicate. Before penetrating a market, research is the core of succeeding. Behavioral patterns vary, consumers therefor demand to know why a company belongs in their country, and a company should be very keen on emphasizing this. Hence, hyper-transparency is king, if any failure on this field a company simply gets discredited and weakens its opportunity. As Eminem rapped it “You only got one shot do not miss the chance to blow”.

Digitalization of Globalization The past 5 years there has been huge growth in PR companies. This is caused by the growth in digital influencers such as bloggers, reviewers etc. This has called for more media awareness. The Internet never sleeps; you therefore need to be aware of the vast changing trends. However, not all get to be a part of the vast change. There are still 3rd world countries that are left out. Though they are following the smartphone trends, they still don’t have the network to use the internet as we do in the western world. Some third world countries still live by the pre-industrial model, it is therefore impossible to approach them as they were a third world country. So, what is the perfect recipe as to including these on the global scene? A lot of companies seem to fail on this task.

offshoringThe Effect of outsourcing At times companies decide to outsource in order to gain higher economic surplus in their company. Unfortunately this is done without reviewing the country’s infrastructure. With this being said, outsourcing is not only negative, it is positive as it creates jobs for people who otherwise would have been unemployed. However, as mentioned previously. If the only goal is to gain economic surplus, it will be an unstable business, if the cultural communication is poor so will communication be in general. For a business to thrive better on foreign grounds you must make an effort to communicate, be transparent, an reliable to ensure a healthy relation within the company as well as having a good reputation amongst 3rd word countries.

ISLA VISTA Mass Murder

Ketelslegers Lola, Belgium.

Back to the 23rd May 2014 : Elliot Rodger, a 22-year-old student killed six people and injured fourteen others near “UCSB” (University of California, Santa Barbara) before killing himself. But what exactly happened ?

Firstly, Rodger killed his roommates in their appartment with two differents knives. The three guys received a lot of stab wounds and incision wounds everywhere in their bodies. After that he wrote “My Twisted World”, a novel about his life, and how he became a monster. He also posted his last video on his YouTube channel where he explained his plan, how he would kill students, girls and boys who had rejected him. His mother saw the video and came to Santa Barbara with Rodger’s dad; she tried to call the authorities but it was too late…

Secondly, he drove to the “Delta Delta Delta” sorority and killed two girls with guns. The first one received eight shots and the second one received seven shots in her chest. The third girl who was at this crime scene was seriously injured, but she survived. The survivor said that Elliot looked at her and smiled, after that, he shot. She said it was like he was really happy to kill. The girl was save by another student who also survived the mass murder.

Thirdly, his last victim was a student in the “Deli Supermarket” of the campus. Elliot shot into the window of the Deli and killed a student. He received a shot in his head and died immediately. The other people in the supermarket were injured.

Rodger also injured fourteen other people who survived the attack (including the girl in the sorority and the customers in the supermarket, but he also injured people who were walking on the street). After his mass murder, Elliot killed himself in his car before being stopped by the authorities.

The families of the victims don’t understand how the sheriff didn’t see that Rodger was sick, because the killer published a lot of videos on YouTube where he looked really dangerous. He talked about his frustration of not being loved by girls and how much he hated couples.

No one in Santa Barbara has forgotten this horrible story, and today there’s a lot of policemen in Isla Vista, where Elliot Rodger killed his victims…

Refugee Crisis in Switzerland

Author: Muhamet Shala from Switzerland

Image result for fluechtlingeChaos. War. Anxiety. These are just a few words that might describe the topic. There has not been a bigger wave of refugees since World War 2 as we, in Switzerland, are experiencing it at the moment. People ,especially from the Middle East, are pioneering their way all over European countries. But the real question is: Where can we place the victims? Do we have the needed resources to handle the situation?

The Swiss officials are pretty conservative and blinded by prejudice at the same time. Sure, when I am leaving the train station and travelling to work, I might get somewhat angry when I see a bunch of refugees sitting at the lake and drinking beer the whole day., but I push my thoughts immediately out of my mind. I cannot put every refugee under the same umbrella. There are lots of people that had a real reason to leave their homes, caused by war or being a victim of political persecution, but there are others that enjoy their lives paid from Swiss citizens’ taxes and even commit crimes. Identifying the difference between these two groups of people is the main dilemma.

In Lucerne, where I live, there are lots of refugees. I worked for the Swiss bank called PostFinance. A couple of years ago, the bank used to be in the full possession of the state. Since 2014, PostFinance became independent from the Swiss government. They now have almost every license as a general bank, but PostFinance still needs to follow some regulations from Switzerland. For instance, it is a written law that everyone in Switzerland with a resident permit must have access to financial services. PostFinance is the only bank who opens accounts and makes consultations with the refugees. In these consultations, one can see the difference between the grateful and ungrateful refugees all of whom receive free financial services.

There is a group of young Eritrean activists who want to prove the condemning Swiss citizen wrong. According to the public relations speaker of the group, the dilemma is caused by the very few possibilities for refugees to integrate well in our society. Without a diploma and perfect Swiss and English language skills, the immigrants are Image result for fluechtlinge luzernnot valuable on the job market. That causes lots of problems for refugees, because it is almost impossible to attend school and achieve the required skills. In conclusion, the refugees get the feeling of not being an active participant of society and often become depressed. Instead of staying at home, they try to kill time and make friends with other people of the same origin. As a result of a failed integration, the refugees meet with their friends in public places, cut out of the world and society.

There is one feeling that is spreading more and more in the parliament chamber: Doubt. While the liberal political groups still try to convince the Swiss citizens to help the immigrants to be active and a part of the society, the conservative political groups use blatant propaganda to destroy the reputation of all refugees. To sum up the situation: people are anxious and curious about what is going to happen in the future.

Saddened, But Not Surprised

britttBritt de Gier, The Netherlands

Crime is increasing in The United States. The alarming fact about the increase is the large percentage of young people that are involved in those crimes. One in four 11 to 16 year olds have committed an offence, for example shoplifting or assault. Is it that they get lost in the big bad world and dig the pleasure that the crime brings, or is it their surroundings, their parents or friends? The teens are not adults yet. They are not capable of handling difficult situations as mature people. The government came up with a possible solution. They introduced social behavior program and curfew orders for young people.

The Youth Justice Board did a study with over 5,000 schoolchildren. The outcome was shocking. In almost every category of crime, children are involved more and more. In the last year, the percentage rose from 22% to 25% of the proportion of children who committed an offence. A few examples of the biggest increases; handling stolen goods (19% -> 25%), physical assault (24% -> 31%) and thefts from school (15% -> 23%).573dfba60b3db_image

The same 5,000 children answered a survey about right and wrong behavior. These results are also horrifying. Not even a third of the children frowned at under-age drinking. 30% approved the fact of carrying a knife as a weapon, that is 1,500 of the 5,000 children. Less then a third of the children disapproved of hitting someone when they are insulted.  The spokesman of the Youth Justice Board says; ”The results are concerning and saddening, but not surprising.” An important possible reason for these results might be the decreasing age of the youngsters becoming young adolescents.

There are several different reasons for teens getting involved in crimes. If we discuss the possible reasons we might understand them better and we could give a helping hand. Ayouthcrime very common problem are economic troubles. Children who grow up in poor circumstances want to better their life standards quickly. They usually are not well educated, so they take the ”easy” route, crime.

Psychological problems push the youth to the path of crime, for example a troubled childhood when they have seen violence and try to hide their weakness behind the crimes they commit.

People who are being discriminated against in this world often show frustration and anger. They express their feelings on the society in the form of crime.

Young people are the future of every nation, so it is extremely important that they are guided on the right route. Youth crime is very dangerous, but attractive sadly for a lot of teens. It is a hard job to keep every single one of them on the right track. Some teens have issues with controlling their anger or putting their energy towards positive things, so they can contribute in the society. Youth crime should be taken seriously. Preventative programs are necessary, otherwise it will bring a nation to its knees.

The Uber technologies

Emma Andersson, SWE, 10/3/2017

uber1

In this article I am going to tell you about the Uber Technologies, an American company what business is to pick up people and drop them of where they want to go. Here in Santa Barbara I have been really aware of the company because that’s the only option to go with at nights if you don’t want to walk and I don’t prefer to walk between the places here in Santa Barbara because it is some distance between each locations, like if you are in Goleta for example and want to go to downtown. Bus works also, but they don’t go so late at night.

uber5

The company was founded in 2009 by Garret Camp and Travis Kalanick, but then it was called UberCab. It was not until 2011 the company changed name to just Uber. The headquartered is in San Francisco in California but the company is operating in hundreds of cities worldwide. In my city in Sweden it is not so common, but here in Santa Barbara I use it almost every day.

The Uber service is not the same in every city, but here in California it works as simple as this; it’s an application in your smartphone who show a map of you localization and then you just write in the place you want to go to. Then every Uber driver who is close to your localization get a notification about your trip and one of them takes the ride and pick you up and then drop you off at the address you had chosen. The payment works in the way that you have to registrant your bank card in the application and after every ride with Uber, money takes from your account. The amount of money depends on the distance and also if you are on a spot where no Uber drivers is close to, the amount of money increase so Uber drivers wants to choose just your ride.

uber4

Any time, any day of the year is Uber available and you can always see all the details of every driver on your application before you get the ride. After every trip you have taken, you can rate your driver and provide anonymous feedback such as the condition of the car and the driver behavior and so on. You can also choose particular type of car of your unique needs, like if you need to fit a wheelchair in the car or if your are more than 4 persons and need a bigger car.

Earth Overshoot Day

The world overshoot day is the day of a certain year, beginning at the first of January that the humanity has used all earths’ materials that it can produce in one year. We can also explain the world overshoot day as a Global Footprint Network. With Global Footprint we can understand all the things like overfishing, overharvesting forests, emitting more carbon dioxide and stuff like that.

Some countries use much more from the world than the things they actually get. For Example South Korea and Japan use more than five times their output, even the USA use up over its output. We can actually say that the USA consumes five times the earth in a year. Before the 1970s we had even an under capacity, this means that humanity didn’t use all of earths materials. Unfortunately after the 1970 there is an over capacity, so we use more and more from earths materials. Nowadays we almost need two earths to feed humanity.

Street Art

Cassandra Klaesson, Sweden

What are my thoughts about the street art?
Yeah, they are mixed. But I think it could be something beautiful. Some street artists are pretty good and are making some big changes in the cities. Making it more colorful.
But there are some people that writes meaningless words on walls or buildings. And that’s one of the things I don’t like.
But just because some people are destroying the town with these meaningless words doesn’t mean a city must remove them all. That’s just wrong. Instead it could possibly work with this and come up with a solution.

One of my favorite artists is Banksy whose gender we don’t know. When he first started with street art, he was just doodling his name everywhere. Maybe not that fancy. But he made something fun with it. He wrote his name on places you would never think a street artist would reach. Making the world become interested in the art. And, in time, the “doodles” developed artistically. They developed a meaning behind the art. Art have opened eyes for people and what is happening around us in the world. And because of it he has started a discussion about things around street art. Making people getting involved. Although he also made some enemies on the way, he doesn’t think about it and it’s just doing the thing he loves. But he mostly could do this because he’s been hiding his identity.

After all he’s been an inspiration to many. Art doesn’t have to be about colorful paintings, self portrait or a nice picture of a landscape. It could also be something on the wall you walk by each day on your way to work.

But the street art is not just some doodles on the wall. It could be knitting around a street lamp, bridge or something completely else. Or you could make the plates with the street signs more colorful or just pimp them. Street art doesn’t have a limit.

But as I wrote before, there are some bad things about street art, like the words are either racist or just bad in general. And sometimes it is in the inappropriate place, like a building or a monument that has some historical importance and is destroyed from these irresponsible “artists”. There are a lot that could be destroyed by street artists. And because of it the debate about street art is growing and there are a lot of people that want street art to be banned. I understand if something that’s already beautiful gets destroyed.

One solution is that some cities designated street art walls where people can come and do their art or just practice. But it still doesn’t stop some people from doodling somewhere else.
In a city nearby where I live they have these kind of walls as seen below, and I been walking past them many times and love some of the paintings.

But I still think cities could do more for the street artists. The cities should help them like they help other sports or artists. I think everyone deserves to do what they love. Some ideas are that they could get sponsored projects from the cities, like making a old wall look “new”. Or for example an old house that they couldn’t afford to renovate. Why don’t they create cool artwork with it?
There is a lot of possibilities you could do and it’s only your imagination that could stop you.

Life as a model during fashionweek

Lea Krummenacher, Switzerland

Twice a year there are fashion weeks in several countries, for example Paris fashion week or Milan fashion week. This is the time where models, just as athletes do during the olympics, have the chance to showcase their talent. Of course they can only do so after attending the castings and being chosen by the designers or scouts. For being chosen by them, you have to be in great shape and you have to be able to walk the runway like a pro. Depending on how many brands are interested in a model, it

has to go to up to 20 different castings in different places a day, which is exhausting and takes a lot of mental strengh because sometimes people treat models more like an object than a human being and critizie them.

After a model has attended the castings and has been chosen for more or one of the brands, it has to go to fittings and rehearsels. At the fittings, they are trying on clothes and the designers decide which model is wearing what kind of clothes. Days or weeks later there is going to be a rehearsel where the models get told how and what order they have to be walking the runway. Rehearsels can last up to one or two days. Days or weeks after the rehearsel, fashion week takes place and the rush begins.Image result for fashion week
